Hotel of the Month February 2017

This month’s Hotel of the Month award goes to Kempinski Hotel Ishtar, Dead Sea. Team members at Hotel Ishtar completed an impressive 1 531 subjects with an average score of 93.42%.


“It's a big success for our hotel to take the lead on Lobster Ink during the month of February 2017,” says Nisreen Kassissieh, the director of people training at Kempinski Hotel Ishtar.


According to Nisreen, they faced a couple of challenges at the beginning of their Lobster Ink journey as team members were more used to a theoretical and practise only approach to learning. “When improvement in performance hit the road with each employee, as it is a plus to watch each video several times until you are confident and fully understand the big picture of service, our colleagues started to recognise how effective the learning platform is, which is reflected through the performance provided by each one of them.”
Kempinski Hotel Ishtar’s learning approach, driven by their head office, is based on a 70:20:10 learning model. 70 refers to experiential learning (Lobster Ink’s practical assessments), 20 to social learning where discussions take place among colleagues in group classes and 10 to formal learning where colleagues learn by watching video lessons and doing online assessments.


“We strongly believe that Lobster Ink is one of the essential e-learning platforms that motivates our colleagues towards the quality service provided to our guests.”


The management of Kempinski Hotel Ishtar also drives engagement on a daily basis by motivating and encouraging their colleagues to learn more and practise more to support their career development. During Hotel Ishtar’s morning management briefing Lobster Ink figures are read, with a special mention to the top ten performers. Every month, the top performer receives a certificate from the GM during their Town Hall meeting which is attended by all colleagues, as well as a gift voucher for a complimentary one night stay at their sister property in Aqaba.
