Hotel of the Month January 2017

Congratulations to the management and team members of Kempinski Summerland Hotel and Resort Beirut for winning January’s Hotel of the Month award.

Initiatives like Hotel of the Month are crucial to motivate management and learners to reach their training goals.

Maya Barghout, People Training Manager at Kempinski Summerland, added that their learners were also encouraged to repeat the courses, in order to obtain a Lobster medal.

“They were impressed with the amazing quality of the videos and how they portrayed all they knew. It was both engaging and really projected the feel of Kempinski.”

According to Maya, courses like Active Shooter also help to prepare learners for the unpleasant reality of a security breach, by compelling them to think about and simulate possible scenarios.

With plenty of support from General Manager Daniele Vastolo, Maya helped their team members to reach their learning goals by setting up a designated Lobster Lab for those who don’t have their own computers. The Lab features two laptops, headphones and fixed telephones which learners can use to complete their courses. “We’ve also painted all the walls of the Lobster Lab a Lobster Ink pink.”

In addition to the Lab, Lobster Ink posters and decals were also placed in the corridors that lead to the Lobster Lab, ensuring that learning stays top of mind throughout the learner’s day.

“As in all learning methods, development comes gradually. What I found of remarkable value was how staff are now implementing the Kempinski DNA values even more, because they have seen several visuals in the videos on how Kempinski staff implement the values, in addition to all the learning, role plays and visualisations they have been doing in the training room.”
